First Mate

Ocean Youth Trust North requires a First Mate for the 20m ketch James Cook.

Formerly part of the Ocean Youth Club, OYT North has been operating as a standalone charity for 24 years providing young people with the opportunity for personal development through ‘Adventure under Sail’. 

The key responsibility of the post will be to work closely with the skipper and our volunteers to deliver Sail Training/Youth Development voyages to a consistent standard and to ensure the safe running of the vessel.  We are seeking someone with motivation and energy who identifies with young people and can interact with them positively.   The successful applicant will be a key member of our team.

Based in North Shields, James Cook operates mainly within the North Sea and occasionally further afield. 

Terms of Employment

We initially offer a fixed term contract starting on 4th March.  Remuneration to be agreed according to experience

Qualifications

Before commencing employment, you will need to be an RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or above with a Commercial Endorsement.  You will be required to obtain an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and an ENG 1 medical.
