Managing Safety

James Cook has on board an Automatic Identification System (AIS) which is a tracking device used to identify and locate vessels at sea.As well as being a very useful aid to navigation and safety AIS allows families, friends and supporters of Ocean Youth Trust North to see the boat’s current position through our website and share the experience of those on board.

We continually strive to improve the means by which we control risk and manage safety to ensure the well-being of the young people who sail with us. The installation of this equipment using the latest technology is another step forward helping to keep Ocean Youth Trust North at the forefront of UK Sail Training.

The hardware was donated by Jotron UK Ltd, installed without charge by UK Electronic Solutions and supported by a grant from the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club (RNYC).
We are extremely grateful to these organisations for their generosity and continued support.
