Job Vacancy: Full Time Skipper


Ocean Youth Trust North requires a full time skipper for the 20m, steel ketch James Cook starting in March 2018. 

Based at North Shields, James Cook operates in the North Sea and Irish Sea with occasional voyages to European and Baltic Ports.

The key responsibilities of the post will be to deliver Sail Training/ Youth Development voyages to a consistent standard and to manage and train Seastaff and volunteers while they are onboard.

Formerly part of the Ocean Youth Club, OYT North has since been operating for 17 years providing young people, particularly those who suffer disadvantage in some way, with the opportunity for personal development through Adventure under Sail. We are seeking someone who identifies with young people and is able to interact with them positively to instruct, encourage and motivate.

We initially offer a fixed term contract from 1 March to 31st October 2018, renewable by mutual agreement at the end of the season.

You will need to be a minimum of RYA Yachtmaster Offshore with Commercial Endorsement, RYA Cruising instructor (or working towards) with a valid ENG1 medical certificate. Previous experience of Sail Training is required.

Offers of work will be made subject to completion of an enhanced DBS check and on-board skipper assessment.
