Ocean Youth Trust North is proud to be working with The Prince’s Trust to help young people who are currently unemployed develop the skills and confidence needed to enter the workplace, further education, training or volunteering.

This June and July, OYT North will welcome two groups of 16-19 year olds aboard James Cook for a week of personal development and offshore sailing as part of The Prince’s Trust Get Started with Sailing Programme.

There are 24 places available to young people on two five day residential voyages leaving from Royal Quays Marina in North Shields.

Participants will:

  • Work with OYT North’s professional sailing staff  to learn how to sail an ocean going yacht (no previous experience required)
  • Gain an OYT North Certificate of Achievement
  • Enjoy a fun week meeting new people and visiting new places while improving their teamwork and communication skills and building their self confidence
  • Receive three months support from The Princes Trust mentors to help them to move into employment, education, training or volunteering.
