I am pleased to announce that Grace Metcalfe has been appointed to a new position with Maybe Sailing, where she will work both as skipper of Tall Ship Maybe and First Mate on Tall Ship Blue Clipper.
TS Maybe is a 24m gaff ketch which works predominantly around the UK offering youth development voyages and adventure holidays. Blue Clipper, a 43m gaff rigged topsail schooner, makes voyages further afield offering tall ship adventure holidays and special interest expeditions to remoter areas of the world.
Grace is to be congratulated in securing this job which affords her with the next step in her career and builds on her successes with Ocean Youth Trust North where she started as a member of crew in 2003.
Having spent 3 years on our Volunteer Development Programme, Grace was employed as the First Mate of James Cook in 2006. She was then appointed skipper in 2009, aged 24. Throughout the past eight years she has made a huge contribution to the success of the trust and has led, inspired and developed all the young crews, sea-staff and volunteers who have sailed with her.
Grace’s hard work was acknowledged in 2012 when she was presented with the Young International Sail Trainer of the Year award at the Sail Training International conference in Riga, Latvia.
Our vision at Ocean Youth Trust North is Changing Lives, Inspiring Futures and Grace’s story is a shining example of how this works.
I celebrate her achievements and wish her every success in her new role.
